Special: Psychic skills #1 - telepathy, mindreading.

OKAY. So! Stuff relating to this:

- With this skill, we can all assume that the package - the thing in KK's brain which gives her her wonderpowers - has been switched from OFF to ON. People with pings for energy, spiritual pings, or psychic pings in general will pick up a huge sense of energy coming from her. The signature will be pretty vast, probably. Generally, everyone who has the ability to pick up on her she'll also be able to pick up on. REVERSE UR PINGS, etc.

- Currently Knife has no psychic shielding whatsoever! Because I'm an unrepentant dick who put it on a different skill. That means currently she is flicking through surface thoughts as a matter of course. FreakAngels do this in canon too, but there is a certain amount of distance in it. Until about afternoon 43 she will still be struggling to truly tell what's inside and what's out. After that, she'll have wised up.

- I split her psychic skills into three sections! Section one is all the basic stuff, everything that comes under the heading of telepathy/mindreading. That's mental information-gathering, communication, suggestion, and the mindshank. The way I've arranged her psychic skills works as follows: right now, her psychic powers are like a blunt instrument. All of the stuff that doesn't need finesse, she can now do. Tricks that take more control and ability - mind control and mental purging - are in psychic skills #2, whereas taking over someone's senses and really advanced crap like that is in #3. So think of Knife's psychic evolution as the difference between someone trying to cut a sandwich with a club, then a blunt knife, then a sharp one. \:D/

- Since a few people in Aather have illusion powers: they won't work on her! She'll see right through them. For those such as Mukuro whose illusions are based on the constancy of thought process and all that stuff, she can break 'em. Magic-based illusions she will know for what they are, but won't effect them either.

- FreakAngel telepathy is always on unless they make a defined effort to switch it off (something Knife currently can't do, see no shielding) or they wear tinfoil on their heads. The range of it is this uncapped. That's right, it covers all of the living areas of Aather currently! THAT'S RIGHT, IF YOU'RE HAVING SEX RIGHT NOW, SHE'LL BE VAGUELY AWARE OF IT thank you Hisoka.

- Powercapping for this skill! The FreakAngels package basically works as follows: some things are always on as a matter of course, and some things require "push" to use - that's like using physical exertion or MP. When powercapped, everything she does will require push to use! Even the bits that are always on. Her range will be halved and muted. She will be able to physically push it out to full range, but that will be the bit that involves collapsing and throwing up and generally not being worth it. There will be a lot more on powercapping later, since I'm going to write up a general powercapping guideline for all of her various skills that aren't covered at some other point!

Right. The important bit! PSYCHIC POWERS: HELP ME HELP YOU. If you think there's something that would be particularly interesting for her to pick up on in a thread, just note it down in the action tag or whatever! Same for general mental states. Or LYING. If there are characters she cannot read because of their own skills, please drop a comment and let me know. If there are characters that you would OOCly prefer her not read ever, please also let me know! GENERALLY, LET'S COMMUNICATE this skill is infomodey and I would like to avoid that at all costs \:D/. Also if there's anyone it would suddenly be v. interesting for me to tag, let me know that too. COMMUNICATION IS GOOD. I will always ask, obviously, before poking through thoughts that aren't advertised in action tags.

UH I will link a thread where it is being Done Right as far as I'm concerned because I have it open. Mukuro is generally doing it right here. For heavier thinkers I also have a link to where Hisoka did it right if people want ittt. Just little notes of changes in mental state, any particular thought contrary to what is being said, general thought process if it's interesting! I mean, if someone is thinking about sex constantly despite talking about KNITTING, something like that. Or like. Really anything that the player likes. She will probably not comment on everything, especially as she gets used to it.

BASICALLY do what you like and I will match youuuuu. Basically I will work with as much detail as I am given.

I READ ALL OF FREAKANGELS THE OTHER DAY SO I KNOW0 WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT YAY

All of my characters are open for mindreading \o/ However Elliot and Luke are super easy to read so it isn't really necessary. The only things they 'hide' with any skill is that Elliot is dead (won't enter his surface thoughts very often) and Luke is secretly depressed as hell and has no self worth, whiiich is more of a feeling than a thought.

Tide doesn't LIE so much as omit constantly, but they don't really interact much soooo irrelevant for now?

IDK IF YOU PLAYED TOA OR CARED ENOUGH TO REMEMBER THE FONON SHENANIGANS so I am just going to go into the spiel.

TALES OF THE ABYSS characters... I am not sure if you want KK to pick up on this, but they literally have a unique atomic makeup that separates them from everyone else. They are HUMAN, physiologically speaking, but they are humans made of fonons + atoms. To steal from my game notes:

"Every structure and living thing has its own intrinsic vibration and emits a corresponding sound. Those are divided into six fonons. Tiny differences in their vibration and connects distinguish individual matter.”

So basically you have REGULAR ATOMS, and then fonons which are tiny elemental particles with unique vibrations/sounds. Everyone except Luke will be made up of six or seven elements but their many different vibrations combined to form one unique 'sound' per person. Luke is made up entirely of one element (Seventh Fonon, Sound) and has the same vibration as those individual particles, so maybe the clearest vibration of the lot of them.

NORMALLY I would assume that psychics wouldn't notice this shit, but FreakAngels package seems to be like SUPER ELECTROMAGNETIC BRAINPOWERS and they do alter shit at an atomic level, so idk maybe KK can tell that ToA peeps are made up of more than just atoms.

I think KK wouldn't notice it in particular YET. Like I said, using a club to do a bread knife's job, etc. As her psychic skills advance, this might be more of a thing, especially if Jade were to go into the theory with her or something and point out that there is something to look for. But not a thing yet, for sure! WE WILL REVISIT THIS PERHAPS \o/

Feel free to read my characters in general! Obviously this mostly applies to Bonten, because... teammates. Bonten doesn't really lie, and he's pretty up front about what he's thinking, but he does sometimes omit info. I'll try to remember to make little notes if necessary! :3c Since I've played psychics before and remember what helped me, sob.

Also, IDK if this is something KK would pick up on or not, but she might be able to notice that Bonten's strand of Heaven's Net has been jerked around a little. It's like... if you imagine you have a program. And then you hack into that program to make it perform extra functions it wasn't originally meant to be able to do. And then later go back in and delete that extra programming from it. IF THAT MAKES SENSE.

Again, that's something she wouldn't pick up on right now for sure. We'll go back and rexamine once she has more of the psychic skills, but it might be a general "there's been some cowboys in your architecture" ping by the time she's fully psychiced up.

... yeeeeessss. Probably. One of the FreakAngels psychically communes with a fly at one point, and Temeraire is far more lucid and ... there's a word ... he has HIGHER THOUGHT PROCESSES! Like a human has! You know what I mean. Though there is some leeway there if you would rather not, naturally.

YOU WILL NEVER HAVE TO WONDER WHAT THOUGHTS ARE COMING FROM YOU AND WHICH ARE LLOYD'S, AT LEAST, he is super obvious! He is mostly very straightforward except when he makes weird intuitive logic leaps and thinks at things entirely sideways. Though it's notable that the way he deals with negative emotions is really strange and off.

Shadowchild is a shadow! I'm going to say that the way its mind works and personal energy thingy is so different from a human's that it's pretty much opaque even if you can sense it.

YOU CAN NOTICE KAWORU IS A SUPER POWERFUL ANGEL IF YOU WANT. Also she won't be able to read Kaworu's mind at all due to his A.T. Field, so she should be able to notice that too.

YOU CAN READ KITE AND SASUKE \o/. Kite is very straightforward, except that he does notice things even if he doesn't comment on them and if she ever goes out of her way to sense Kite when he's alone she might actually notice that Kite feels sad sometimes and then hides that.

I'm totally down with mindreading. :3 Itachi's thoughts are a bit more open now than they will be once he remembers to be more guarded, and he's not inclined to lie at the moment. But he thinks a lot more than he talks, so even if he's not lying he's only saying a fraction of what's going on in his head.

His thought processes will change as he picks up more memories (particularly traumatic ones), but it's all good. :'D

ALSOOO special Dera notes:

His canon involves totally scientifically magic soul energy that manifests as a flame, and there are seven (OR FOURTEEN? IDK!!!) different types! Most people have one that is present in enough amount to be channeled for use, sometimes two. But Dera has ~*~five~*~, so that would definitely be an oddity! ALSO!1 Emotional output is always in the 6-13 range. :|a 6-8 is calm, 8-11 is EXCITED (either happily or angrily or other tantrumy), and above that is 'oshit we are bein' trauma'd'. All of it basically translates as thoughts being "yelled!!11" I guess (unless it's at 6-7 when it's just...more forceful a bit??). :|a SO THERE IS THAT TOO.

You can read both Lenalee and Konatsu! Konatsu is an open book anyway, mostly, and is also probably pretty annoying for a psychic to be around because he thinks loudly and very quickly and represses a lot of emotion. AGITATED MOST OF THE TIME, constantly introspective.

Lenalee is more guarded but is still pretty open, especially until she gets her real trauma back. She's a worrier about people but she's a lot quieter inside, caring and soft. She is sadder than she sometimes appears because she tries not to talk too much about it but she thinks about it a lot :(

Muraki is literally not trying to hide anything right now. He's very obviously sociopathic, even if he feels things they're very muted and easy to discard. He wonders about hurting people sometimes but the impulses are discarded easily and quickly. THE EXCEPTION is actually KK and he won't bother to hide that either 8'D.

He'll be pinged by KK's energy stuff but won't comment on it nor give it much more than a passing thought.

Souya is also very open and honest what you see is what you get.

Reim has CONSTANT NEVERENDING INTERNAL MONOLOGUE ranging from CHORES to TEAMMATES to XERXES BREAK!1 it is hilarious and you should laugh at him.

O yeah Kanji too. Kanji is stupid! You will pick this up easily. He is very aware that he is stupid and when he finds himself worrying about the sort of thing he knows he won't be able to get through you will find train of thoughts that basically go like,

"Oh man, Kaworu's an angel, shit, that is deep stuff, like the religiosity of it? Is his meanin' of angel the same as ours? Hey, is it cool that he's making out with me and -- ahhh, whatever, I'm not smart enough for this, he can be the judge of that sort of thing anyway. Back to tattin!".

Kanji's main thoughts will be flitting around
- his lace-making progress, worrying over the amount of thread he has left as he tries to figure out if he can complete his project without having to quest again, etc.
- what to cook for dinner tonight and what food groups are currently available and how can he make food exciting and delicious and new with so few ingredients for seven people, and is this much beef really healthy, we should really have some chicken and it would have been better to lose the beef and keep the fish in our packages and--
- wondering if he's coming off too girly when he talks to people and constant mental reminders to amp up the fact he's a real man
- Kaworu, gawd.

...as well as that, there is a presence in the back of his head with a faint mythological air that is the manifestation of his ability to face his true self. It is named Take-Mikazuchi, and it definitely originates from Kanji and his desire to improve himself despite the fact it is also named after and, yes, in some sort of universal avatar-like harmony with the Shinto god. It is going to feel slightly out of place in that Kanji has not yet remembered the events which caused the manifestation of his fears to turn into the manifestation of his ability to face them.

I am good for anything with Fakir! He is kind of . . . normal thinking . . . but I guessss knows more than he lets on a lot, and is a lot more dere than he tries to show. He knows things about Mytho and the duck/Princess Tutu that he hasn't told anyone so that could be relevant. :3

Lelouch's mind is a very busy place! It probably won't be too noticeable on a daily level with nothing for him to really focus on, but apparently he's capable of literally thinking like ten separate things at the same time, according to a canon mindreader he's trying to fuck with. There will be at least two streams of thoughts going at all times: his normal thought process, and then a kind of detached, observing, super analytical voice that's . . . sssstill him, not a separate personality, but kind of an overactive super brainy background murmur.

Zero is easy right now and pretty much says how he feels. Except for his secret about how he's unsure about Kaname. I would like this to not be revealed. He's also anxious about being a vampire hunter but he's told some people that, people who aren't vampires. Oh, and being a vampire, he pings dark and POWERFUL (which you already know).

Ryner................. um Ryner is triple possessed so his headspace isn't fun. I really don't suggest messing with it. It's occupied by a slacker demon, a really really EVIL demon who wants to destroy everything and laugh about it and... Ryner's mom. The slacker demon, Ryner Reed, is pretty much chill and a little sad but nice. The evil demon, Alpha, likes to say shit to fuck you up. He's an asshole and definitely the loudest of the three. Ryner's mom... is probably pretty quiet.

Ryner himself is full of fear of himself and the wish to protect his friends. Oh yes, and he is constantly thinking, analyzing and figuring out his next step. GOOD LUCK FINDING THAT AMID THE REST. In general, reading Ryner is going to hurt like a son of a bitch. He is crazy powerful and will ping GODMODE powerful and DARK.

OH I MEANT TO REPLY HERE! KK is free to read Ruka anddd there are two things of note about his thoughts! One is that he will often not complete his thoughts coherently/at all, especially when he's not actively chatting with someone, because at the moment it is... literally hard for him to hear himself think. This will also lead to him thinking in visual terms more often than the average person might, and if he pauses in a conversation it's likely that he's actively concentrating so he can figure out what he's thinking!

THE SECOND which is iffier is that he has super hearing!! now, so he has to process and/or tune out a LOT of noise. So while his own thoughts are likely to be very quiet, he has all that noise floating around in his head too. Since they aren't his own surface thoughts idk if KK will be able to sense how loud it is in his head! IF SHE CAN... I'M SORRY. :'(

General stuff she is likely to get from him: "ow that was loud ;A;", curosity, and lotsss of half-formed introspection that usually spirals into self-worth issues/worrying over what he's presenting to people!!/general anxiety, orz.
